Known as the Gateway to Boulder Valley, Superior is centrally located near major employment centers along U.S. Highway 36, bookended by Boulder 10 minutes to the Northwest and Denver 20 minutes Southeast. Superior began as a coal mining community in the 1800s and remained a tiny town of about 250 people until the 1980s when the suburban developments of Rock Creek Ranch began. Superior continues to grow, with new homes being built now in the recently developed town center. The town has become a hot spot for families looking for great public schools (all within Boulder Valley School District), a short commute, and an outdoor lifestyle all in a small community. As far as education goes, Superior public schools are part of Colorado’s most sought-after district, Boulder Valley School District. Superior’s public schools are highly rated not only by parents but by teachers, paying teachers the highest salaries in the state.As new homes were built, and Superior Marketplace shopping center sprouted in this picturesque area, families and young professionals flocked to the town. Today, the four square miles are home to 13,000 residents drawn to its suburban feel, excellent location, and truly unique small-town atmosphere.
Although Superior is a small town, about four square miles, it has 630 acres of parks, green space, and open space. The best part of this community land is the 35 miles of walking and biking trails. The communities in Superior have been developed to allow all of its resident’s easy access to the trail system. And not only does it have an abundance of outdoor activites, it is also home to one of the nation's largest indoor sports facilities. The Sport Stable’s 150,000 square foot space features 2.5 NHL-sized ice rinks and the country’s largest indoor turf field and training for multiple sports.
